Feministschool: More than 300 civil society activists and equal rights defenders have requested Mahdieh Golroo’s release by signing and sending a letter to the Iranian President, which accompanies this letter. Some of the signatures are: Nasrin Sotoudeh, Nargess Mohamadi, Shahla Lahiji, Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani, Jila Baniyaghoub, Isa Saharkhiz, Douther’s Zahra Rahnavard (Nargess and Zahra Mousavi), Fakhrolsadat Mohtashamipour and...
Mahdieh Golrou is one of members of the Iranian Women Citizens Association and a student and women’s right activist:
To His Excellency, Dr. Hassan Rouhani
it is more than 3 weeks that Mahdieh Golroo has been imprisoned , Mahdieh is one of the hundreds of women who showed their concerns about Acid Attacks upon women, her objection has been completely legal .
She is well known for her peaceful activities and participated along with other women rights and civil society activists in a demonstration on October 23rd in front of parliament highlighting to MPs that Acid Attacks are abhorrent violence against women.
But unfortunately after just three days of her civil action, Mahdieh Golroo was arrested, she has been all this time in solitary confinement in Evin prison, her civil efforts simply echo the peaceful voice of the young ladies of this country who are frustrated and mortified at the Acid Attacks .
Mr President, Mahdieh Golroo is one of the many women who joined your electoral campaign last year with the hope that your promises would come true to develop our civil society and eliminate discrimination against women and security controls over activists.
Now we would like to question if her detention is against your electoral promises or not?. There is no doubt that prison is the place for those men who attack women with acid and make society unsafe for them, not for committed, lawful women like Mahdieh Golroo .
We , who signed this letter , would like to emphasise that her arrest is against the law , ethics and justice as well as your electoral promises. We plead with you to release her immediately and unconditionally.
